I&S GRADE 10 - UNIT 4
Introduction to Psychology
The aim of this unit is to give students a basic understanding of psychology, ensuring they are prepared for the DP level of the course. This unit maximizes student choice and gives you the opportunity to pick a theory to study. Below, you will find four different psychological theories. You will pick one of these theories to replicate here at school. After replicating the theory, you will present the information in a written report. Through a combination of interactive activities, real life examples, and self study, you as a student will come to understand the basic skills needed to study psychology.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The video below explains what this unit will be about. It also outlines one of the tasks (linked below the video) you will be completing as you study this unit.
Step 1: Understanding the Theories
The first thing you need to do is decide which of the four theories you want to look at. It is important that you pick a theory that you find interesting. Watch each of the videos below. After watching each video, complete the Google Form associated with it.
Step 2: Pick a Theory
Now that you have a basic understanding of the theories we are studying you need to pick the one you would like to look at in depth. You should then complete the form below.
Step 3: Understanding a Case Study
Now it's time to really get to understand the theory you decided to study. To do this, you will evaluate a case study done by psychologists over this same theory. The case studies below explain both the independent and dependent variables of the experiment, as well as the method used to conduct the study. First, watch the video below to better understand the different between variables. Then you should read the case study for your particular theory. After reading the case study, please complete the associated google form.
Step 4: Designing your study
It is now time to create your study. This will be done through the proposal form below. All information you need can be found there. Remember, you can't conduct your study until the proposal has been accepted by your teacher.
Step 5: Gather you data
This is one of the most important parts of the entire study. Here you will actually conduct your study on willing participants. It is important that you conduct the study EXACTLY as it was proposed. Practice what you will say before you attempt to gather the data. Lastly, it is important to be prepared. Make sure that you have all materials needed before conducting the study.
